Christmas Playlist: Owain Wyn Evans
5pm – 9pm
This weekend we’re thrilled to bring our shoppers a Christmas mixtape curated by none other than Owain Wyn Evans.
Here in Levenshulme we bandy the phrase ‘local Levy legend’ about quite a lot – but Owain is quite literally a local legend.
Known the world over as the drumming weatherman and universally adored for his distinctive sense of style and flamboyance, Owain is also a regular on The One Show, an occasional presenter on BBC Radio 2 and a friend of Drag Race UK, fronting live events with the Queens.
Owain has worked as a BBC presenter for over 15 years but found global fame last year when a video of him drumming along to the BBC News theme tune went viral. This led to the incredible record-breaking 24-hour drumathon earlier this year, which has so far raised almost £4m for Children in Need.
As if that wasn’t charity enough, he’s assembled a Christmas mixtape for our final market of the year and it’s a great big festive banger. Owain has also been a community champion of Levy Market over the past couple of years, supporting our independent traders week in week out, so it’s a lovely Christmas gift to see out the year

We’re also asking people to donate to Lifeshare this Christmas. Manchester’s oldest homelessness charity, Lifeshare provides practical assistance, support and information for those experiencing homelessness. We’ll have a dedicated collection point at the market for your donations – you can find all the info here.

Art: Three Minute Portraits
5pm – 9pm
Over all three of our December markets we’ll be hosting a series of local artists who will be sketching lighting quick minute portraits for our customers.
For our final Three Minute Portraits, we’ll have Jack McConnell and Laurie Pink with us creating whistlestop sketches of yourself, your partner or even your pets – they’re perfect little Christmas presents and an absolute steal at £3 a pop.
Carols: Levenshulme Community Choir
7pm
We’ll be joined by Levenshulme Community Choir, a new community choir project comprised of local residents who started their weekly rehearsals earlier this year at Levenshulme Old Library. They’ll be with us to perform a selection of carols and other festive tunes.
Fun: Around the Box
5pm – 9pm
For our final market of the year, we’re joined by the always popular Around the Box. Run by Levenshulme’s very own David and Alice, Around the Box have been a big hit whenever they’ve visited the market, giving all ages a chance to come together for some challenges, puzzles and games.
DJ Set: Sophie Sveinsson
6.30pm
Back with us for a final festive funk-fest, Sophie Sveinsson from XS Manchester will on the market decks with some yuletide tune time fun.
