Levenshulme Market is looking for new directors to join our team!
After two years of successful markets; being in the finals of the BBC Food and Farming Awards; launching our first fund and kicking off a greening scheme in partnership with Incredible Edible Levenshulme the team of non-exec directors behind Levenshulme Market are looking for some fresh faces to join our team.
Directors of the market play a variety of roles – from providing advice, guidance and line management to the operation team to managing our strategic direction and setting our ethical priorities. Market directors meet informally every fortnight for two hours to discuss issues arising and each of us undertake some work outside of this – depending on our capacity and interest area. This is an unpaid role. However, on occasion, where a director is well suited to an operational task that is above the remit of a staff member, they may be paid to complete this task at an hourly rate which is common to all staff at the market and above the living wage.
We are looking for Levenshulme residents to join us in these duties and help us keep making the market work. We are particularly looking for people who have a grounding or background in either accounting/bookkeeping or HR/staff management and contracting. Most importantly, though, we want to work with people who are passionate about Levenshulme and the market and have the drive and excitement to make things better. We will look closely at “fit” with the current board of directors and how your skills and style of management would complement the existing directorship. Priority will be given to applicants who have a history of market trading but this is by no means a prerequisite for application.
