Levy Market Festive Five: Booze

This is part of our ongoing guide to Christmas gifts available to order from the traders you can find at Levenshulme Market and have delivered direct to your home. You can read the whole of the guide here.

Booze and Christmas – name a more iconic duo. This year, with Christmas parties, works’ knees up and a pub catch-up all off the cards, stay-at-home-drinks (responsible stay-at-home-drinks) feel all the more important.

So here are five booze options to float your Christmas cheer this December, all available on your doorstep (provided you live in Levenshulme.)

1. Wine from Vinobuono

Wine and Christmas, truly the Jack and Meg White of drinks/annual cultural festivals. And with VinoBuono, your Christmas relaxation can find its perfect partner. As well as an incredible range of wines, all expertly sourced from small vineyard across Italy which use non-industrial farming methods, VinoBuono offer crazy cheap prices AND free delivery to local Levy residents.

2. Salford Rum

This is the stuff – PERFECT for both your Christmas cocktail creations and those late night moments of winter contemplation, this golden spiced rum is produced in small batches, infused with a festive mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and dried fruits from the Caribbean, all distilled in the shadows of the old Salford Docks.

3. Neighbourhood Gin

These guys are new – so new they don’t have a website and we’ve not actually been able to find them a stall at the market until 2021 – but their gin, distilled here in Manchester, is so clean and smooth you could drink it on the rocks. Drop them a message via Facebook for your order.

4. O’Donnell Moonshine

Both some booze to lubricate your way through the festive season AND an ideal Christmas gift, O’Donnell Moonshine – always a hit at Levy Market – follows in the US gangster tradition, with a range of glorious flavours of their grain alcohol concoctions, each distilled to traditional prohibition recipes and bottled in traditional Mason Jars to avoid the suspicion of the authorities.

5. Your local pubs

Even though they’re all closed while Manchester languishes in Tier 3, plenty of Levenshulme’s pubs and bars are doing what they can to get by, operating as takeaway bottle shops now that having a sit-down drink isn’t a goer. And all of them could do with your custom this time of year given the government support is nothing compared to what these places are expected to lose over what would usually be their key trading period. SO, if you’re planning to get squiffy this Christmas, please source your drinks from the following:
