Woo woo! It’s nearly LevyFADfest time! And we are – as ever – SUPER excited to be involved!
The Food and Drink Festival kicks off on Friday with a host of special events – including the debut Levenshulme Global Picnic – a special free family food event curated by us as an opportunity for all the residents of Levenshulme to enjoy a taste of the cuisines and cultures reflected in our diverse area.
The Global Picnic will take place in Cringle Fields Park on Sunday 14th June between noon and 4.00pm and forms part of an exceptional family fun day produced in collaboration with St John Ambulance, the Friends of Cringle Fields Park and Manchester City Council, who will be laying on free entertainment and activities for all the family: from team games and face painting to a craft market, first aid demonstrations, live music and a vintage car rally.
The picnic will form a centrepiece for the day – residents are encouraged to bring their own food to share and the Market company has also funded community groups to create a selection of free picnic food from around the world for attendees to try – including British, Caribbean, Eastern European, Indian, Pakistani, Roma…and more!
The picnic will also feature the grand unveiling of the Sew Levenshulme table cloth – a patchwork of squares made by residents representing the various community groups and activities in Levenshulme. The cloth will be a legacy piece for the Festival, and organisers hope that over the years as more squares are added it will become a record breaker!
The Food and Drink Festival is now three years old and this year will host nearly events between Friday 12th and Sunday 21st June – including two iterations of the market and a second family picnic on Sunday 21st June on Greenbank Fields – which will close the festival with a baking competition and other activities.
